This is part of a workshop Dyalekt and I did on how to manage your finances when the world is on fire (you can find the full workshop here).
Where you spend your money is a representation of what you value and we all have some compromises we wish we weren't making. So how do you start divesting from places you hate as a consumer?

If money was no object, where would you stop shopping?
Choose something you spend money on and let's examine it:
1. Is the detail itself harmful (pollution), or are you getting it from a company that is the problem (diamonds/de beers)?
2. Can you find it somewhere else? Is it more expensive, does that mean you can have it less often, or is there something you are willing to give up to get it?
3. Can you divert some of that detail money to advocacy for the harm around the detail? (Direct or indirect) Ex -I buy from a company that exploits workers, I donate to union advocacy in that sector
4. How do you feel about giving it up entirely? Is there something that can fit your values and also scratch that itch?
Pam & Dyalekt's test case: DOOR EATS

kinda both with the fake kitchens
2. Can you find it somewhere else? Is it more expensive, does that mean you can have it less often, or is there something you are willing to give up to get it?
Food everywhere and cheaper (ahhh!!), but with food delivery, I donβt have to drive/train to get it. Time wealth or convenience?
3. Can you divert some of that detail money to advocacy for the harm around the detail? (Direct or indirect) Ex -I buy from a company that exploits workers, I donate to union advocacy in that sector
Tip more?

Going out. Taking the time to visit a place if they're gonna cook for us. Bring the kid. Make it an event. Do it less often.
